Concrete Overlay in San Antonio, TX: Transform Damaged Concrete Without Replacement

A cost-effective alternative to tearing out and replacing concrete — a new surface poured over the slab you already have.

  • Cheaper than replacement
  • ½–2 in. typical thickness
  • Licensed · Insured · Bonded
  • ~1 Week to normal use

When a slab is cracked, spalled, or badly out of level, tearing it out is expensive, slow, and messy — and usually unnecessary. A concrete overlay in San Antonio bonds a new layer of concrete, typically between half an inch and two inches thick, directly over the existing surface: it covers cracks and damage, restores a smooth and level plane, and creates the sound foundation any coating needs to bond properly. It costs less than replacement, finishes faster than removal and repour, and causes far less disruption to the building. Most of the time an overlay is a first step rather than the finish itself — we build the surface back, then install epoxy, quartz, or polish on top of a slab that will actually hold it.

Why Choose an Overlay

Fix the Slab Without Tearing It Out

Replacement-grade results without the demolition, the timeline, or the cost.

Cost-Effective

Substantially less expensive than removing and repouring the slab from scratch.

Fast

Faster than full concrete work — most spaces are back to normal use within about a week.

Clean

Minimal disruption to the rest of the building. No jackhammers, no hauling out the old slab.

Covers Damage

Cracks, spalling, and uneven areas disappear under a smooth, level new surface.

Perfect Foundation

Creates the sound, level base that epoxy, quartz, and polished finishes need to bond correctly.

Finish-Ready

Take it as a finished surface, or use it as the base layer for any of our coating systems.

FAQ

Concrete Overlay Questions

Will a concrete overlay crack?

When installed correctly, an overlay is designed to provide a durable, long-lasting surface. Proper surface profiling, a correctly specified bonding layer, and addressing the movement that caused the original cracking are what keep it stable — which is why the slab evaluation up front matters as much as the pour.

How thick is a concrete overlay?

Most overlays range from roughly half an inch to two inches thick. The right thickness depends on how much damage and how much level correction the slab needs, which we determine during the site visit.

How soon can I use the floor?

Within about a week the surface is ready for normal residential or commercial use. If we’re installing a coating on top of the overlay, that adds to the timeline — we’ll give you exact dates once we’ve seen the slab.

Is an overlay cheaper than replacing the concrete?

Considerably. You avoid demolition, disposal, and a full repour, and the job finishes faster with far less disruption. Overlays cost more than a straight coating but far less than replacement — which is exactly the gap they exist to fill.

Can I put epoxy or polish over an overlay?

Yes, and that’s the most common reason to install one. The overlay rebuilds a smooth, sound surface, and epoxy, quartz, or a polished finish goes down over it once cured — giving you a floor that performs like it was poured correctly the first time.
